One interesting fact about New Mexico is that it’s home to the "VLA" (Very Large Array), one of the world's premier astronomical radio observatories. Located in the remote plains of central New Mexico, the VLA consists of 27 large radio antennas, each 82 feet in diameter, arranged in a Y-shape. The array is used to study deep space phenomena like black holes, galaxies, and cosmic radiation, and it’s also famously featured in the 1997 movie Contact, based on Carl Sagan's novel. The VLA is one of the most important radio observatories in the world!
