The Great Emu War was a bizarre event in Australia in 1932 when the Australian government, faced with a large population of emus causing agricultural damage, deployed soldiers armed with two Lewis machine guns and 10,000 rounds of ammunition to combat the flightless birds. Despite their efforts, the soldiers were unsuccessful in significantly reducing the emu population, and the "war" became a humorous and unusual episode in Australian history.
