Arkansas is home to the only public diamond mine in the world where anyone can legally dig and keep what they find.

At Crater of Diamonds State Park, visitors can search a 37-acre volcanic field for real diamonds — and if you find one, it’s yours to keep.

Since diamonds were first discovered there in 1906, more than 75,000 diamonds have been uncovered. Some visitors have found stones worth thousands of dollars — including large, gem-quality diamonds.

It’s the reason Arkansas is nicknamed “The Natural State” — and in this case, nature occasionally pays off.
