Wisconsin is home to the nation’s only “driftless” area—untouched by glaciers.
Unlike the rest of the Midwest, which was flattened by glaciers during the last Ice Age, a region in southwestern Wisconsin called the Driftless Area remained untouched. This left behind a unique landscape of steep hills, deep valleys, and cold-water trout streams—a geological oddity in the heart of glacier-sculpted America.
