Did You Know!

A rarely known fact about Vermont is that it was once an independent republic. On January 15, 1777, Vermont declared itself an independent republic, separate from both British and American rule, during the American Revolutionary War. This makes Vermont not only the 14th state to join the United States but also one of the few states that existed as a sovereign entity before becoming a part of the union. The republic lasted for 14 years until Vermont officially joined the United States as the 14th state on March 4, 1791.
