Beneath the town of Hutchinson, more than 600 feet underground, an active salt mine is used to store rare and irreplaceable items because the environment is naturally dry, stable, and disaster-proof. Copies of the U.S. Constitution, original film reels, museum artifacts, and major Hollywood archives are kept there for long-term preservation.
