WATCH:

President Trump told boaters they can “once again enjoy the open ocean” after signing a new executive order aimed at cutting federal restrictions on anglers, charter captains, and recreational boating. Trump criticized what he described as a Biden-era 10 mph speed limit and declared the issue “signed, sealed, and delivered.” The underlying rule was narrower: since 2008, vessels 65 feet and longer have generally been subject to a 10-knot limit in designated East Coast seasonal management areas intended to protect North Atlantic right whales. Trump’s new order directs federal agencies to begin reviewing, revising, suspending, or rescinding regulations deemed overly burdensome to boaters and fishing businesses within 30 days—a move likely to draw attention from charter operators who have long argued that slow-speed zones can significantly cut into valuable fishing time.
