NFL Referee Saves Tom Brady From WHAT?

During his game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Tom Brady had a weird moment with the referee after a crazy play which left him defenseless.

The play in question was when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a turnover which the Eagles recovered and were going to the Bucs' end-zone. Brady had switch onto defense mode and try to stop the incoming wave of Eagles' players. One of the Eagles linemen Derek Barnett decided to block the quarterback so he could not make a play on the ball.

Once he started blocking out Brady, the head official started to push off the linemen for Brady being "defenseless" at the time. This rose many questions about the legitimacy of many officials who make interesting decisions while the ball is live.
