  • Jim Henson Is The Creator Of What Beloved Cast of Characters?

    Did You Know!

Virginia was once home to one of the world’s largest natural bridges—and it impressed a U.S. president enough that he purchased it.

Natural Bridge is a massive limestone arch that rises about 215 feet above the creek below. In 1774, Thomas Jefferson purchased the bridge and the surrounding land from King George III for just 20 shillings.

Jefferson was so fascinated by the landmark that he built a small cabin nearby for guests to enjoy the scenery. Over the centuries, the Natural Bridge has attracted famous visitors, including George Washington, who is said to have carved his initials into the rock wall during a surveying trip.

Today, the Natural Bridge is preserved within Natural Bridge State Park and remains one of Virginia’s most remarkable natural attractions.
