🌋 Tennessee Has an Underground “Sea of Fire”

Beneath parts of eastern Tennessee lies a massive underground coal fire that’s been burning continuously since the 1800s. Known as the Newala or Burning Mine Fire, it started when coal seams accidentally ignited — and geologists say it could keep burning for centuries. The ground in some areas still gives off warmth and faint smoke, even in winter.
