🌿 Louisiana Has a Living, Floating Forest You Can Visit

One of the most unusual natural features in Louisiana is Caddo Lake—the largest natural lake in the southern United States and home to what feels like a floating forest.

Here’s what makes it so rare:

• The lake is filled with bald cypress trees that grow directly out of the water
• Their roots form eerie “knees” that stick up above the surface
• Parts of the lake were naturally formed after a massive log jam (called the “Great Raft”) blocked the Red River in the 1800s

Unlike most lakes in the region—which are man-made—Caddo Lake is one of the few truly natural ones, giving it a wild, untouched feel you don’t often find anymore.
