The Nebraska National Forest, located near Halsey in the Sandhills, was intentionally planted by people starting in the early 1900s on what was originally treeless prairie. Today it covers over 90,000 acres, making it the largest human-created forest on Earth—complete with pine trees, wildlife, and even a historic tree nursery.

It’s one of the few places in the Great Plains where a forest exists almost entirely because humans decided to grow one 🌲
