In a headline-grabbing announcement, Scott Bessent declared that despite the recent court ruling, the Trump administration is moving “full-steam ahead” on its trade strategy. Standing firmly alongside Donald Trump, Bessent pushed back on what he called “misplaced gloating” from Democrats and segments of the media, clarifying that the Court did not strike down the president’s tariffs outright. Instead, he explained, six justices ruled that IEEPA authority cannot be used to generate revenue — a technical limitation the administration is prepared to work around. Bessent revealed plans to invoke alternative, legally validated tools such as Section 232, Section 301, and Section 122 authorities, emphasizing that Treasury projections show tariff revenue in 2026 will remain virtually unchanged.
