Did You Know!
Maine Is the Only U.S. State That Borders Just One Other State
Here’s a surprising fact about Maine that many Americans don’t know:
Maine is the only state in the United States that shares a land border with just one other U.S. state—New Hampshire.
Unlike most states, Maine is surrounded by a combination of international borders and the Atlantic Ocean. To the north and east, it borders the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick. To the south and southeast lies the Atlantic Ocean.
Surprising fact: Although Maine is the easternmost state in the continental United States, you cannot drive from Maine to another U.S. state without passing through New Hampshire—unless you travel through Canada first.
