Alabama is home to the massive Saturn V rocket that helped send astronauts to the Moon.

Many people don’t realize that Saturn V, the rocket used during NASA’s Apollo missions, was largely developed in Huntsville. This is why the city is often nicknamed “Rocket City.”

The rocket was designed and tested at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, where engineers led by Wernher von Braun helped create the powerful launch system that made the Apollo 11 Moon Landing possible.

Today, visitors can see a full Saturn V rocket displayed horizontally at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, where it stretches more than 360 feet long—about the length of a football field.

Fun twist: Even though many people associate the Moon landing with Florida or Texas, a huge portion of the engineering that made it possible actually happened right in Alabama. 🚀
